What does it take to study mathematics?

- Good command of English as most scientific papers are written in English. Nevertheless, the lectures in the Bachelor's degree are held in Germen.

Required language skills
When applying to study Mathematics in the Bachelor of Science, you are not obligated to verify any foreign language skills. Nevertheless, a good command of English is very helpful, as the majority of scientific papers is written in English.
Required language skills in German
Foreign-language applicants need to provide a certificate proving their language skills in German are at the level of DSH-1/TestDaF3. Alternatively, you can use other state-approved language tests or officially recognized school reports as verification. At the University of Constance, it is not possible to absolve a German course or to pass an officially recognized German examination as a preparation for your studies. Consequently, an officially recognized verification of your German level has to be present at the time of your application.
Teaching and exam language
The common languages of teaching in the Bachelor of Science are German and English. The basic courses are mostly taught in German.
Admission requirements
The only requirement for the admission into our Bachelor studies in Mathematics is the general matriculation standard (A-levels, "Abitur") or another state-approved equivalent university entrance qualification.
Verification of the orientation programme
In order to apply to any university in Baden-Württemberg, it is necessary to take part in an orientation programme. The orientation test of Baden-Württemberg is the most widely used orientation programme. The verification of your participation needs to be attached to your application.
Fees and dues
Enrollment fees per semester

Additional tution fees for a part of all first-degree foreign students
Since the winter semester 2017/18, some of the international students in their first-degree study in Baden-Württemberg have to pay a special semester fee. Exempted from this regulation are students possessing an EU citizenship, students known as non-mobile foreign students (“BildungsinländerInnen”) like for example non-EU-citizens with German A-levels and students that come here for their doctoral / PhD studies. Additional tuition fees for all students in their second degree
Simultaneously a semester fee for all students in their second degree studies were introduced (i.e., if you already completed another Bachelor study program). Here you can find more information.
The University of Konstanz annually exempts a limited amount of especially giftes international students from these fees as a part of the legal regulation ''Begabtenbefreiungssatzung''. For more detailed information, also on further possible exemptions, click here.
