The spectral gap for a domain in a manifold is the difference between the first two eigenvalues of the Laplacian, here with Dirichlet boundary values. We report on some recent work on finding bounds on the gap for domains in hyperbolic space. We also look at the problem of bounding the gap for Schrodinger operators on a metric tree, where the potential is convex. This is joint work firstly with T Bourni, XH Nguyen, A Stancu, G Wei and VM Wheeler; and secondly with M Wolswinkel and H Zhu.
