Manuscript / lecture recording:

There is no typed manuscript of the lecture course. However, the content of the lectures is closely coordinated with my colleagues in analysis. Therefore, the following notes of Prof. Racke largely coincide with my lecture course: Merkblätter zur Analysis I (Prof. Dr. R. Racke).
Some important principles and notions were introduced in the Vorkurs Mathematik. The lecture notes (in German) can be found here: pdf.
The lecture course is recorded in form of a video stream and can be foundhere.

Description:

This lecture course is obligatory for first year students in mathematics and mathematical finance (MFÖ). It is also recommended for students in physics interested in mathematics. In this course basic ideas and concepts on the analysis of functions of one variable are given. The knowledge provided in the course Analysis I is essential for almost all fields of mathematics. In order to understand the topics of the course, it is absolutely necessary to train the new concept in the exercises. Therefore, the constant and active participation in the exercises is of great importance.

There are three important rules to accomplish this lecture course and the first semester:

  • Participate actively in the exercises and solve the problems yourself
  • Participate actively in the exercises and solve the problems yourself
  • Don't get discouraged!

Matlab programming:

In the lecture course some Matlab programs will be discussed. The following programs will be shown:

  • Harmonic series: matlab, pdf
  • Exponential function:matlab, pdf
  • A continuous but nowhere differentiable function:matlab, pdf
  • Some elementary functions:matlab, pdf

Related modules (6 SWS, 9 Credits):

  • Bachelor Mathematik: Basismodul Analysis
  • Bachelor Mathematische Finanzökonomie: Basismodul Analysis (MFÖ-BA-Modul 1)
  • Bachelor Physik: Mathematik Modul A
  • Bachelor Economics: Ergänzungsmodul B9
  • Bachelor-Studiengänge Nebenfach: Mathematik 2000 Basismodul 1
  • Lehramtsstudiengang (Staatsexamen) Mathematik: Grundstudium

Details for the exams:

  • For all students: For the successful participation (Schein or Modul) the active participation on the exercises is necessary. This means a sufficiently large percentage of correctly solved exercises (approx. 50%) as well as active participation in the exercise groups.
  • For all students: Concerning the registration for the exams, please consider the notice (starting from mid of November) at the Prüfungssekretariat.
  • For Bachelor students which need a module on Analysis I and II (e.g., Bachelor Mathematics,  Bachelor Mathematical Finance): A written exam on both semesters will be held at the end of September 2010. The second written exam (resit) will take place during the semester holidays in spring 2011. Additionally, a written exam on Analysis I is offered on March 22, 2010. The participation in this exam is optional; the result of this exam can (on request of the student) be incorporated in the total result of the module with a weight of 20%.
  • For Bachelor students which need a module on Analysis I only (e.g., Bachelor Physics or Nebenfach): A written exam will take place on March 22, 2010. The resit will probably be held in form of an oral exam.
  • For students of Lehramt or Diplom: A graded certification will be written based on the results of the exercises. It is possible to improve the grade by participating the written exam on March 22, 2010. The Zwischenprüfung and Vordiplomsprüfung, respectively, will take place at the end of September 2010.
