I will review some of the known results concerning the resolution of singularities for vector fields in ambient dimensions 2 and 3. As with Hironaka's classical result, the main objective is to obtain a simple local normal form by a sequence of blowings-up of the ambient space. I will indicate some difficulties and prospects for obtaining a general result in arbitrary dimensions.
