We will explore the interplay between combinatorics and geometry of Schubert varieties in flag manifolds. We begin by examining the fundamental relationship between the deformation of classical combinatorial functions and the geometric properties of flag varieties. Moving forward, we recall the concept of the Hecke algebra, which can be understood as a deformation of the permutation group. We will describe an action of Hecke algebra on cohomological invariants associated with Schubert varieties. Algebraic properties of the cohomological invariants are reflected by geometry of Newton polyhedra obtained by localization at the torus fixed points.The talk presents an overview of results obtained in collaboration with Feher and Rimanyi and  by Aluffi, Mihalcea, Schurmann, and Su.
