Abstract: We investigate the stabilization of a transmission problems between viscoelastic system with non-smooth Kelvin-Voigt damping, and a purely elastic system. It was shown that the discontinuity of the materialcoefficient along the interface elastic/viscoelastic cant assure an exponential stability of the total system. So, it is natural to hope for a polynomial stability result under certain geometric conditions on the damping region inthe multi-d case. We obtain polynomial energy decay rate depending on the nature of the damping coefficientin both one and multi-d cases. However, in the multidimensional case, geometric conditions play a crucial rolein obtaining a polynomial decay of the energy.
