Why you should study at our department
The studies of Mathematics at the University of Konstanz stand out due to
Good staff-student ratios. You will not find overcrowded lectures in the department of Mathematics and Statistics. We have an excellent staff-student ratio, offer many small tutorial sessions with 10 to 15 students per group, and our lecturers always strive to stand in close contact to their students. Consequently, it is possible to receive personal feedback and support on a regular basis throughout your studies.
Support whilst transitioning from school to university. The first step is always the hardest. In order to support you in getting off to a great start, the department of Mathematics offers many additional services and activities to facilitate the beginning of your studies. From our four week pre-course to various complementary options during the semester like the “Mathewerkstatt” (guided study time) and the lecture ''Einführung in das Mathematische Arbeiten'', you are free to choose according to your personal preferences and needs. For further information, please have a look at the website of our ''Individualisierte Studieneingangsphase''.
A broad mathematical education with the opportunity to set your own accents. With a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in Konstanz you acquire basic knowledge in a wide range of mathematical disciplines. At the same time, due to the high share of elective modules, you can shape your studies to your individual preferences, especially in the second half of your bachelor’s degree and in your master's degree.
An extensive offer of minor subjects. Minor subjects are a great possibility to further match your studies with your personal interests. At the University of Konstanz you are offered a wide variety of minor subjects ranging from natural sciences and computer science, through philosophy and psychology to linguistics and economics.
Short distances and library 24/7. All courses of our department, as well as all the minor subjects, take place at the campus of the University of Konstanz. This means short distances in between courses (and to the canteen). The library of the university, which is opened 24/7, enables you to learn and work whenever you wish to do so.
Studying where others spend their vacations. Even apart from studying Mathematics, Konstanz has a lot to offer. With countless cultural offers at the university and in the city, the Lake of Constance and the Alps on the doorstep, this city is a very special place to study.
